Support from Age UK Manchester … and more news

News

I hope everyone is okay and keeping safe!

Although we didn’t get the chance to meet and make plans, members of Out In The City have informally been supporting each other with telephone calls and messages on social media. However, if you want some additional support, we’ve had an offer from Age UK Manchester who are happy to arrange regular telephone calls.

If you want this, or need anything else, please get in touch with Terri

Miriam, a student at Manchester University has contacted us:

“I was just wondering if you and any other participants of the ‘Out in the City’ group would be comfortable with doing a virtual interview?

It is for my masters dissertation, which is a Sociology MSc leading into a PhD, with a special focus on ageing populations. For my research project I am looking at the impact of interventions and groups for older LGBTQ+ individuals on social isolation. This is with a view to inform current age-friendly policy on ways to be more inclusive of minority groups and engage older individuals who are socially isolated. It is also being carried out to fill a gap in knowledge concerning the older LGTBQ+ population in general.

I am hoping to interview 10 people on their experience of an age-friendly group, the interviews will be about an hour long and will be done over the phone whenever the individual is happy to do so. Importantly the interview can be stopped or questions skipped if ever an individual doesn’t feel comfortable.

I would be happy to write up a separate report once the project is finished for Out in the City, and of course anyone who is interested is more than welcome to see the finished dissertation in full.

If interested please contact: miriam.tenquist@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk

The interview’s can be done whenever you are free. Just let me know when!

Thank you

All the best,

Miriam”
