Fascinating talk by the artist who explained he was trying to demonstrate how people, crowds and protesters have been controlled from Norman times up to the present by men on horseback. He compared the soldiers on horses depicted on the Bayeux Tapestry with their helmets, swords and shields, with the militia attacking protesting crowds at Peterloo, right up to today’s mounted Riot Police with their helmets shields and batons controlling crowds today. The rest of the museum included collections of curios and historical items, and cabinets of stuffed animals. Great atmosphere in Fitzpatrick’s Temperance Bar where four of us had lunch, with its shelves of non-alcoholic cordials and old-fashioned boiled sweets. They even had Jam Butties on the menu.
