This was a sad experience which touched many feelings and yet the quilt Art was filled with such love and emotion..it was a wonderful act of remembrance.. thank you Tony and all for the support within our special group Helen xx
Not just an exhibition. This is an emotional experience which I’m sure resonated with many of the Out in the City group who lived through the era of AIDS. I’m sure, like me, everyone in the group knew at least one person who succumbed to that dreadful syndrome. Some of the quilts were amateurish; others both professionally produced and extremely creative. Linking them all was the emotional connections between those who died and those left behind. The quilts that really touched me were those which referred to the fact that the family of the deceased never accepted their son’s sexuality and the fact that he died from AIDS and also those quilts which were created by the the deceaseds’ mothers. It was a privilege to travel to Wakefield to visit this excellent exhibition.
A most enjoyable trip with Out In The City today. Deep reflection on friends lost 🙏and memories that will never fade. x
